The ESF Exploratory workshop Non-verbal Intentions: The Emergence of The Emotional Embodied Mind took place at the Anna Freud Centre, London on September 22-25th, 2011.
Social, emotional and cognitive capacities cannot be differentiated from embodied processes. Nonetheless, the precise mechanisms integrating somatic and psychic actions into an experience of a coherent mind of self and others are yet to be fully uncovered. Attempting at illuminating these mechanisms, this workshop brought together scholars in developmental psychology, technologically sophisticated infant movement scientists and distinguished cognitive neuroscientists. This coming together of the diverse fields of research was a continuation of a previous meeting, and which further informed our empirical understanding ofthe multifaceted origins of the affective mind within a social embodied context.
